Bio: Kerry Woodson grew up in the coastal community of Carmel, California where he first fell in love with baseball. He played in the Pony Baseball system from age 9 through high school where he played varsity baseball and basketball at Carmel High School. Kerry played collegiately at San Jose City College where he was a two time All American. He was named to Baseball America’s top 100 players in 1988. Kerry was awarded California Junior College Player of the Year as both a pitcher and shortstop.
After pitching in the final four State Championship for San Jose his sophomore year, he accepted a full ride scholarship to transfer to Arizona State University in 1989. He was drafted and signed professionally as a pitcher with the Seattle Mariners. Kerry moved up quickly in the minor league system and then was promoted to the major leagues with Seattle when he was 22 years old. He played with Ken Griffey Jr, Randy Johnson and the great shortstop, Omar Vizquel in Seattle. Kerry went on to play 12 seasons with stops in Colorado, Chicago, Arizona, Taiwan, Japan, and Mexico.
Kerry has been coaching travel baseball and little league for the past five seasons in Naples, Florida. He is passionate about giving back to a game he truly loves. He currently resides in Naples with his wife and three children. When he is not coaching Kerry enjoys playing golf and fishing for snook and tarpon. Kerry currently runs Phoenix Grease Recycling, a company that recycles waste vegetable oil and turns it into Bio-diesel fuel.
